How To Improve Self-Confidence and Build Self-Esteem

Welcome to our Personal Empowerment Series #5…

Self-EsteemQuestion: How To Improve Self-Confidence and Build Self-Esteem

Answer: So many people struggle with self-confidence and self-esteem which causes them to play much smaller than they are. Most people have a sense that there’s more inside of them that desires to be expressed, and yet they feel stuck because they don’t know what that is, or how to bring it out. The key to bringing that part of you through is to recognize when you’ve been trying to live from a conditioned idea of who you once defined yourself to be, what I refer to as the “personality” self.

The personality self is the part of ourselves that was fabricated after we were born, and yet which we come to identify most strongly with.

That personality self is created from influences outside of us and isn’t ours from a true nature or authentic perspective. This part of our personality is impressed upon us after we were born. If you’re a girl they probably wrapped you up in a pink blanket, put a pink bonnet on you and gave you a doll to play with. If you were a boy they wrapped you in a blue blanket, put a blue bonnet on you and gave you a truck to play with. And so there begins the makings of our personality.

This personality self is created mostly from what we have been conditioned to believe about ourselves, from parents, school, religion, the media, societal standards, which is somebody else’s idea of who we should be. Then we spend our lives striving to live into the image of that personality profile. We go on and start to learn:

  • what religion means to our particular family
  • what our society is which we are born in
  • what the beliefs are
  • what the habits are

We then take all of that on as our identity and believe that that is who we are. We try to live into those expectations and very often realize that we feel that we’re falling short because it doesn’t really fit; it’s not who we really are. Trying to fit into this conditioned identity often severely impacts our self-confidence. We end up feeling like we’re striving and striving to live up to, to be or do something that isn’t really true for us.

How do we gain a better sense of self-confidence?

The easiest way to do that and probably the only way to do it, really is to uncover the part of yourself that is already perfect, the part of yourself that came into the world as absolutely unchangeable and perfect just the way you were intended to be.

As you begin to live your life from that place, you realize that you are perfect and unique and there’s no one else like you. You feel wonderful in your own skin. You realize that there’s no reason for you to ever try to be anything or anyone else. As you start to appreciate so much of who you were born to be you start to realize the greatness within you, and from that place you can reach your fullest potential.

What Are My Gifts and Does That Tie Into My Purpose?

Listen To “What Are My Gifts and Does That Tie Into My Purpose” Interview with Laurie…

Welcome to our Personal Empowerment Series #4…

Question: What are my gifts and does that tie into my purpose?

Answer: It’s all part of it because we actually were born with our own unique blueprint of who we are, and all that we can become. That’s why every single one of us is a unique expression and part of your expression is that purpose you came here with, another part of it is your unique gifts, strengths, traits, and passions.

What are my gifts? As mentioned in my previous article about getting stuck, what I find with most people is because they have a skewed, and often limiting, perception of who they are, they’re trying to live into that limiting perception. They are, in fact, trying to live their life using learned skills or strengths that were actually conditioned after birth as opposed to skills and strengths that are natural and innate to them and which are part of their unique blueprint. They get stuck because they’re actually going against their true nature and swimming upstream making it harder on themselves to achieve what they want and become all that is possible for them.

One client, Linda, told me how different her life is now that she has been able to realize that there is a difference between her conditioned self and her true authentic self. Now that she has been able to separate the two, she realizes how trying to live as her conditioned self has kept her stuck and playing small for most of her life. She said that living as her true authentic self has given her a confidence and sense of personal peace that she hadn’t had before. She said it has also dramatically improved her relationship with her husband!

One of the greatest things you can do for yourself, I would say even before the idea of trying to find your purpose, even more important, is for you to define your greatest gifts and strengths so that you can start using those and then when you start walking through the world from that place your purpose probably will reveal itself.

Awareness Is The Key In Finding Your Purpose In Life

Listen To “Awareness Is The Key In Finding Your Purpose In Life ” Interview with Laurie…

Welcome to our Personal Empowerment Series #3…

As you uncover your awareness, does that help in finding your purpose in life?

Well almost everybody, without exception – I’ve worked with people all over the world from as far as Shanghai, Australia, London, all over Canada, Hawaii, all over the U.S., and so it seems without exception that everyone I have ever met has this sense that there’s something greater for them, that they were born for greater things, however, most don’t know exactly what that is.

Sometimes they’ll refer to it as “Why Am I Here?” or “What’s My Purpose?

Finding Your Purpose In LifeThe sense that there is something greater is because they haven’t yet uncovered that part of themselves that is greatness, that authentic part of themselves that came here as perfect. That’s also a part of themselves that carries a certain pattern that they are meant to play here in the world and some people like to call that purpose. Often we’ll confuse that with the idea that that’s our profession.

We think, “well what’s my purpose and I need to get a job doing that,” when really our job has nothing to do with our purpose other than our job or career may be a place for us to express our purpose.

  • What if our purpose simply is to help others believe in themselves?
  • What if our purpose is simply to help inspire others to their higher potential?
  • What if our purpose really is to raise the vibration of the planet?

You can do that anywhere. I’ve helped clients, and it doesn’t matter if you’re digging ditches or driving a choo choo train, to understand that your purpose can show up in whatever you’re doing.

We have very specific methods to help you uncover what that is, but you’re not going to find that it’s “Oh my purpose is to be president.” It could show up as, “My purpose really is simply just to ease the weight that people are carrying on their shoulders every day.” That may be your purpose and you can do it no matter where you are, sitting behind a computer sending somebody an email or posting something on Facebook to bring a smile to somebody’s face.

So your purpose is on, one-hand elusive yet on the other hand, when you discover what it is you’ll realize that it’s something that you’ve always done your whole life. It’s part of who you are, it’s part of the very makeup of who you are.

I encourage you to look deeper, uncover your awareness, and express your purpose. You will find the inner joy you have been looking for.

I feel so stuck… How do I get unstuck?

Listen To “How Do I Get Unstuck” Interview with Laurie…

Welcome to our Personal Empowerment Series #2…

How Do I Get Unstuck - Personal EmpowermentOne can easily get unstuck in a matter of moments. It really doesn’t have to be difficult at all. I’ve helped people shift in a single conversation. The important piece in getting unstuck is to change the perspective of ourselves and what’s possible.

What keeps us stuck is:

  • Our limited idea of who we are and then we keep repeating and creating that
  • Everything that we are experiencing in our life as of this moment is a result of everything that we knew about ourselves in the past.

Like Einstein said “No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.”

In other words everything that you are experiencing in your life as of this moment is a result of everything that you knew about yourself from the past. So if you learn nothing else about yourself, if you don’t change your perspective of who you are or what’s possible for you, you can’t move forward because you’re operating with this old data… the old programming. You cannot move out of that until you get new data or new information that serves you at another level.

The idea is to learn about yourself, learn who you really are, learn what your greatest most authentic strengths are, get in touch with your true heart’s desire and start to follow the breadcrumbs forward from there.

It’s very very easy to get unstuck actually but it takes awareness.

Depending on where you are, how ready you are to shift and how strongly you’re choosing to hold onto old patterns is key to how easy or hard it is to get unstuck. If you are ready to follow the breadcrumbs and open to a new awareness, choose to uncover any limiting perceptions and expand what’s really possible.

What does Living An Authentic Life mean to you?

Listen To “Living An Authentic Life” Interview with Laurie…

Welcome to our Personal Empowerment Series #1…

What does Living An Authentic Life mean to you?

Well, all I can do is start with relating it to my own experience because that was my first introduction into authentic versus inauthentic. I’d like to start by saying that most of us believe that we are living as authentically as we possibly can.

In fact, if you would have told me 20 years ago that I wasn’t being authentic I would have probably been very offended from an ego standpoint because I was, in fact, living from a place of ego.
Authentic Life - The Ego

What I now know is that it’s the fabricated self that we call ego that prevents us from knowing our own authentic self.

All authentic really means is original and our ego is not original. Our ego was fabricated after we were born. It’s fabricated out of our experiences, it’s fabricated out of what we learned to believe, which is all taken on after we were born.

In other words, it wasn’t original to you when you came here. So, if we are living from our ego place, which is also known as the personality place, we’re living from this place of everything that we’ve learned after we were born. Most of what we believe to be true about ourselves is not necessarily authentic — meaning it’s not original. Therefore, it’s often not in alignment with your highest potential.

We end up striving through life working for something more, trying to be something greater and trying to reach our highest potential. The problem is if we’re living from the ego or from the personality and it’s not in alignment with our original authentic self, we’re going to end up working harder to achieve what we want. And very often we’re going to feel like we’re falling short of what we could achieve.

You may not understand why you feel stuck or like you’re swimming upstream. It’s frustrating. It impacts your self-confidence and self-worth. You may see yourself as the nicest, most giving, and caring person you know, and yet you wonder why the world isn’t reflecting that back to you. Life seems like a struggle and you can’t move forward.

Many people feel like they’re not worthy, not good enough, or tired of not knowing what to do next. My purpose is to show people none of that is true and there is a way forward.

When we’re living from the personality, we’re trying to live our life through the perspective of this fabricated self rather than live our life from that part of ourselves that is authentic. The key is to return to the authentic self which is in alignment with our highest potential. Beautifully, that just happens to be the place of the soul or of the heart.

The Power of You in 2016

Awakening Your Very Best Self to Achieve All You Desire

Do you feel a growing sense that you’re supposed to be expanding and moving forward toward something, yet at the same time you feel anxious, uncertain and, well … stuck. You may have a strong desire for success, and a strong sense of frustration that it isn’t happening fast enough, if at all. Do you have an inner knowing that something big is waiting for you, but you have no idea what it is or how to find it? When this happens, we tend to think we need to do more, learn more, be more, in order to get ahead. “If I work harder, then it’ll happen!” we think.

Looking back at the past two years, are you closer to your goals than you were then? Or has each new year started out the same … goals, resolutions, good intentions, and by March you’ve settled back into the same routines, wondering how to make it work.

Can 2016 really be the year that it all changes and you regain control of your life?
Absolutely! And, contrary to what you might believe, it’s easier than you think.

Research tells us that 84% of people aren’t aware of what makes them unique, gifted and strong. If that’s the case, then 84%, rather than easily and joyfully moving ahead, are working harder and struggling to achieve their goals without using their very best strengths and qualities. That’s like trying to cut down an oak tree with a butter knife!

If you’re like most people, you don’t even realize your own true brilliance!

Change the way you think about yourself and your world begins to change around you. At 54 Alison, a single mom, had spent 25 years working as a Registered Nurse. Although she was ready for a change in her life, Alison was frustrated and unclear about what she would do next, or how she would do it. When I met Alison she was struggling with self-confidence and fear which kept her stuck and anxious. As Alison and I began uncover her true self and regain a vision of who she really is at the core, (beyond the roles that she had played for so long), she found strengths, passion and a sense of purpose that she hadn’t felt in a very long time. Not only is Alison now loving her new career as a health and wellness advisor, she also met “the one” who she married two years later. Alison told me, “This is who I always was, I just didn’t see how amazing I really am and all I was capable of doing! I now see that I was blind to what was hidden right within me.

Awakening To The Power of YouFrom this new perspective, life becomes a world of unlimited possibilities that eventually brings you to an amazing destination you’ll love. And, yes, there’s a road map to help you get there. It begins with knowing yourself as you truly are, and eliminating limiting beliefs that perpetuate self-doubt, self-criticism and fear, then you find your true sense of personal power and can see what’s unique and brilliant in who you were meant to be.

In this renewed view of your true self, your thoughts become more clear, positive and empowered. As your thoughts change, your actions and behaviors begin to change. Ultimately, your relationships improve, and you make better choices and decisions that are more true to you. You become more confident and willing to step beyond old boundaries that kept you stuck. Possibilities open up to new and exciting opportunities that you hadn’t even thought of in your old way of thinking about yourself. Although you feel like a new you, in reality you’ve simply removed the masks and become the real you.

The truth is that you can only reach your highest potentials when you are aligned with your true strengths, purpose and values. With all the fast-paced changes happening in the world, it’s imperative that you have a strong sense of your own personal power so that you can stay grounded, focused, and free of limiting constraints.

2016 is promising to be a year of change in many ways. Let the change begin with a renewed perception of who you are and all that’s really possible for you. This puts you back into the driver’s seat of your own destiny.

Breaking Free

Have you ever felt like your outer world is colliding with your inner being?

Breaking FreeYou chose growth and freedom. You know there’s more within you to be realized and greater experiences to be attained. Yet daily life often seems fraught with flat tires, spilled milk and missed deadlines.

Through growth, discomfort is inevitable. Our tendency is to turn away from discomfort; ignore it, hide it, or numb it in some way. We wonder, “Is it really possible to have something else?

Resisting discomfort only serves to stuff down the underlying cause of your discomfort, ultimately preventing you from releasing old emotions and triggers that have kept you from seeing your true gifts and hearing your own inner wisdom and guidance that longs to set you free.

When your outer world appears to be less than cooperative, rather than retreat, resist, or resent what shows up:

  1. Stop, take a breath, and simply notice what’s showing up around you.
  2. Stay out of judgment – it just is; you don’t need to make any meaning out of it. Judgment, assigning meaning, only creates drama and potentially more to resist!
  3. Notice what buttons within you are being pushed. Again, do not judge, only notice.
  4. Allow the feelings and emotions to simply pass through you. Literally feel and/or watch the feelings move through and out of you without getting stuck in drama, reaction or judgment.
  5. Sense yourself feeling less reactionary about the situation.
  6. Choose to experience the dissolution of the old emotional trigger.
  7. Know that you have grown one step closer to being free and moving closer to your authentic nature.

Mastering the art of releasing old emotional wounds rather than holding on is the quickest way to break free of fear, self-doubt and limited thinking and open up to the transformation that is waiting to ignite you.

Ignite the Brilliance that Lies Within

How to Awaken a Deeper Level of Who You Are

You are more brilliant than you know. The one most significant thing I’ve learned in helping people overcome what holds them back so that they can achieve their goals and realize their true potential is that almost everyone has a limited perception of who they are. This, in turn, limits how they see what’s possible for them. In fact, research says that 84% of us don’t know the true gifts, strengths and unique qualities we were born with. How is this possible? How can we live with ourselves for 40-some years and not know the true brilliance that lies within us?

Awaken Who You AreDo you remember the fairground attraction called the “House of Mirrors?”

When you walk past the mirrors you see distorted images of yourself. The truth is that we live much of our daily lives with such a distorted image of who we really are. Instead of looking deep within ourselves for answers, we look to those outside of ourselves to reflect back to us who we are. Depending on how others see you, you try to adjust your behavior to the reflection they show you. Because everyone has their own filters and expectations of who you are and what you “should” be, your own view of yourself becomes distorted and you lose the sense of your authentic self. Your inherent nature gets lost as you continuously adapt to these outside reflections.

As we grow older and prepare to build our own life, we make choices and decisions based on the distorted views of who we are and what we should be. This often leads us in a direction that isn’t in alignment, and often not even close, to our true nature.

I give people the tools to take a refreshed look at themselves. In this new view you can actually uncover your authentic self. From this perspective, you have the opportunity to see the “distorted” identity you created long ago, for what it is.

When you see your true self, maybe for the first time since you were two or three years old, you see the perfection in who you were intended to be. I tell people, when you reconnect with your authentic self, you fall in love with yourself. You suddenly realize the truth to the phrase, “God don’t make no junk.”

Following the path and living through the lens of the “unreal” you causes you to feel fragmented. You may have a sense of being lost. People who are following a false path typically experience self-doubt, uncertainty, and lack of confidence. They have difficulty making choices and decisions, and often make their choices based on fear or a contracted view of themselves. This limits their possibilities and the potential to reach their full potential. Often you feel stuck. Even though you’re working hard you still feel like you’re just spinning your wheels.

Now is the time to uncover your authentic self so that you can ignite the brilliance that lies within you. When you unearth who you really are, you open the doors to expand into a wholeness to live in integrity with your true gifts, strengths, and purpose. You find yourself moving down a path that leads you more and more into your own greatness and highest potentials.

The Wonder of YOU

I was listening to my Elvis record albums (one of my favorite things to do) and the song, That’s the Wonder of You came on. If you’ve ever really listened to that song, you’ll notice how powerful his voice is. To me, it feels as though he’s singing directly to me! Ahh, be still my heart~

Anyway, it got me thinking, the more I work with individuals, the more I realize that most people have absolutely no idea how incredible they truly are. We’re just too close to ourselves, I guess.

Sadly, too often as children, we got the idea that we were stupid, weird, not good enough, or just didn’t fit in. And we spend much of our lifetime either striving to prove that we are good enough, or worse, hiding our light and playing small.

The Wonder Of YouOne of my biggest joys in my work is to help people find the heart of who they are so that they can finally know, at the deepest level, their authentic magnificence. It’s a process, but once you reconnect with that part of you that is uniquely brilliant, you naturally fall in love with yourself.

In that moment, you realize that you always were perfect just the way you are.

There is nothing more empowering than to realize that who you are is exactly who you were intended to be. Self-doubt disappears and you no longer worry what they might be thinking of you, or if they’ll like you.

Incredible inner peace and a sense of confidence come when you know yourself at that level. You begin to show up differently in your life because you finally believe in and trust yourself. Relationships become deeper and more real as the fear goes away and you accept yourself and feel comfortable opening up to share your true self with others.

Take a moment now to reflect on the real wonder of you.

At the core of yourself is a Being of true magnificence longing to express itself through you with joy.”  Namaste~

Trust Your Inner Wisdom

Trust your inner wisdom

Have you ever wished you had a crystal ball that instantly tells you the right choice to make?

Like they say, “If I had a nickel for every time …..”  Maybe I wouldn’t be rich, but I’d certainly have a nice chunk of change in my vacation fund for every time I wanted a crystal ball to point me in the right direction.

Recently, I’ve had this big decision to make and because of it there’s a huge inner battle going on between my head and my heart. If you’ve ever experienced this, then you know it’s not a peaceful place to be. It’s like a war zone in there!

Here’s my dilemma. Every July, for years, I’ve been going to a conference in a peaceful little town in Michigan. This conference, located on a serene lake hidden far away from highways, sky-scrapers and the need to wear only a t-shirt and cut-offs (no shoes required), is referred to as the “Woodstock of Spirituality.” Each year, I throw my pop-up tent, a cooler, and a duffle bag into the car and drive 5 hours to Michigan with my favorite tunes blasting! This is my “me” time – my time for renewal, self-reflection, inner nourishment and the opportunity to connect with nature. As January comes around, I start looking forward to another year for my sacred get-away.

The issue is that earlier this year I registered for a business conference in New York, not realizing it was during the same time as my Michigan trip. This conference offers me the opportunity to learn new business-development tactics, collaborate with other entrepreneurs, and meet some wonderful potential new clients. I can already see myself buying a new suit, packing up my heels and panty-hose and flying into LaGuardia airport for a power-packed week of learning, networking and new ideas to grow my business.

It only came to my attention a few weeks ago that these two events fall during the same week. When I learned this, I was heart-broken.

I had already paid the registration fee for the New York event, purchased my airline tickets and made my hotel reservations. Plus, I could always use another binder full of information telling me what I should be doing to grow my business.

Yet, my heart keeps whispering, “Just go to Michigan, Laurie, you don’t need another binder!

So, where exactly do I find a crystal ball?

From time-to-time we’ve all been faced with situations where we just wished someone would give us the answer. But, in the end, I know that no one knows what’s right for me better than me.

  • How do we make these difficult decisions?
  • How do we know that we’ve made the right choice?

Over the years, I’ve developed a pretty strong sense of intuition; the ability to access the deeper levels of awareness. So why is it that I’m still faced with these choices that cause so much inner turmoil?

Because, often our heart wants one thing while our mind says we should be doing another. It’s really not a matter of discerning the difference between what my heart wants and what my head wants. The real question is; which will I choose to put more faith and trust in?
