Transcending What Limits You
June 7, 2023
Whether we consciously recognize it or not, we are all impacted by experiences of the past (both in this life-time as well as other life-times) that have caused a sense of trauma on our emotional bodies. These traumas, regardless of our perceived severity, remain within our energetic bodies and manifest daily in the way we experience the unfolding of our lives.
It may be difficult to image how a single look of disapproval from mommy at the age of 3 could have a significant impact on how you feel about yourself, the choices and decisions you will make for yourself, all of your relationships, and the struggles or successes you will achieve in your life.
A single event, seemingly insignificant and definitely forgotten on a conscious level will, like a taped-recording playing on an unending loop, limit our sense of self-worth, undermine our self-confidence, and alter our self-perception to the point that we become a limited expression of who we truly are.
One of my clients, 'Jane,' told me that she felt that she was never able to experience joy. She was happy, had achieved a certain level of success in her career, traveled to beautiful places with friends, but was always seeking something that would take her to that satiating feeling of joy. She also felt like there was more that she was supposed to do, but couldn't figure out what that was or what direction to go in. As I guided her through the exercise of emotional trauma release and healing, an experience of being three years old, in church with her parents at a wedding came to her mind. She remembered feeling excited seeing all of the happy people, hearing the music, and most of all, wearing her very special dress and shoes she and mommy picked out just for this event. She remembered feeling the joy as she ventured out of the church pew, into the aisle where the wedding party was about to parade, and began to twirl with excitement and exuberance! Suddenly, finding herself being pulled by the arms and told to sit down and keep quiet, she remembered feeling how upset mommy and daddy seemed at her. Unbeknownst to Jane, that would set the limiting bar for just how much joy and excitement she would ever (unconsciously) let herself experience again. To the 3-year-old mind, joy and excitement now meant that she could upset mommy and daddy, and that she was bad if she allowed herself to open up and follow her inner sense of bliss. To her unconscious mind, she would never feel safe to experience that level of joy or excitement again.
Interestingly, and sadly, I hear stories like this over and over from clients who have felt blocked, stuck, unclear about what they want, and unable to move forward in their life, relationships, or career. They know they're smart, creative, good-hearted, and have worked hard to do everything they know how to do to create more for themselves, but find that some seemingly invisible force seems to keep them from having the clarity or moving forward fulfilling their deepest hearts' desires.
It is my utmost joy and pleasure to feel the passion in their voices, hear them express the sense of liberation, freedom and joy as they are freed from the binds of self-limitation as the doors to their dreams and visions become visible and open to them. And to think that with a tool as simple as a guided visualization, fully awake and aware, can completely transmute the unconscious limitations and transform the way we feel about ourselves, open the doors and clear the pathways to finally move forward and become the full expression of authentic nature, is a true honor and blessing.
